A 19th Century electroplate 'Temperantia' charger, being a faithful replica of the Venus Rosewater Dish presented to the winner of the Ladies' Singles at the All England Club Lawn Tennis Championships held at Wimbledon each year, stamped 'A. B. Paris', 44.5 cm diameter The original partially gilded silver salver was made by Elkington & Co in 1864, after a copy made by Caspar Enderlein from a pewter original by Francois Briot (circa.1585), held in the Louvre. It was first presented to the Wimbledon Champion in 1886. The winner does not get to keep the trophy, which remains in the museum at the All-England Club, but from 1949 all champions have received a miniature replica. Please note: the dish has lost most of its silver plating through tarnishing.
